Conclusion: NOT!
The Cable Modem outperformed the 56K modem in both web page loading (www.macuser.com) and shareware downloading (www.macdownload.com) from remote sites (I am located in Honolulu, thousands of miles away).

I tested to see how fast each modem could download from the LOCAL SERVERS:
Conclusion: Love that Cable Modem!
